Yea! It’s Sunday and time for Six Sentence Sunday
Every week participants post six sentences from something they are writing – or have written. It’s a lot of fun and really a great way to meet new writers!
And I’ve met some terrific people. Thank you !
Be sure to check out the other great participants and thanks so much for stopping by!
Taking a break from the six characters for a bit. I’ve been working on the Devil’s Mistress.
One dreary Sunday having just watched a re-run of Buffy, she kiddingly asks him if he’s ever dated a vampire. He replies in the affirmative.
“I met Alicia one night when I was walking down a dark alley on my way back from a job. It was just a space between two old tenement buildings, the bricks weathered with age, amidst fumes of cabbage, urine and drink. My ears picked up the scampering of rats, their nails clacking on the pavement. I did not anticipate seeing any mortals in this place. No sounds alerted me, but to my surprise an unique scent penetrated my awareness. I was not alone and it was not mortal.”
The Devil’s Mistress, a paranormal romance, is about an unlucky in love woman and a man who works in mid-management for the Devil. He’s the one who dispatches souls to his boss, Mr. D. She vows to restore her lover’s humanity and not lose him in the process. The story is told entirely from her point of view.
Great six! 😀
“fumes of cabbage, urine and drink.” – loved that description!
😀 you would!
I love this story too. The description in this passage is especially evocative. I can see him walking down that alley like I was watching a movie. Great six, Sue. 🙂
ooo thanks jenna – the muse has been strange lately – more to come
The description really brought me into the moment.
Thanks very much!
Good six.
thanks
Oooh, love that you came back to this one too! It always amazes me how you weave in so much detail from the five senses in his POV – knocks my breath away! 🙂
You make my day! it takes hours for me but I love it
Great descriptive passage! 🙂
Thank you very much Sandra 😀
Great way to make him seem “human” at the same time demonstrating that he’s not. Wonderful six!
Sigh – yeah that’s the problem – his humanity
I agree about making him sound human—though the way he speaks marks him as superhumanly eloquent, all those sensory details make him accessible. Great six!
the trick is his humanity to get it back… he’s not evil
I got the chills when you talked about the rats. Great six! 🙂
Don’t like rats eh? Giving you chills in this case is a good thing. Anyway the rain is giving me the chills. Keep warm!
Way to set the scene with your description! Wish I could’ve read more. Awesome 6!!!
You shall – I’ll be posting from this section for a bit. Thanks for the vis
This sounds exciting, Sue–thanks for sharing! I hope you share more of these in the future 😀 Thanks for the visit to my blog–yes, I agree! These Sunday e-mixers are fantastic in terms of cultural exchange and meeting different people. I love “different” 😀 Have a fantastic rest of the day!
yeah – we’re all “different” 😀
I was right there. Great work.
thanks so much
Good description! Thanks for sharing.
My pleasure 😀
I love your use of description and your last sentence is a great hook.
are you the fish at the end of the hook?
Great description. So evocative of smell and sight. Great six!
thank you – much appreciated
Well, ok then. Scary six. Got me very interested.
Scary? yours was way scarier
Not very romantic meeting– but that’s just as well considering is talking about old girlfriend to his current girlfriend. If he is any common sense at all new girlfriend has to win this contest! A very atmospheric–but fun–six!
Patience, dear, patience. anyway Alicia was in 1930…
I love the description of the alley. Could really picture it. 🙂
Thanks for stopping by Gayle 😀
Great imagery!
thank you very much!
A dank, dark alley…what a romantic place to meet someone! 😉 Well written imagery, and I like how he can smell her out, and know that she is not mortal.
What? vampires aren’t romantic?? 😀
Fantastic description!
