We’ve been Waiting for the Day for a long time to see Don Francks in person
The other night we traveled to Toronto to see one of our favourite artists, Don Francks.
The venue was a club, actually a pub, downtown, with good food (the bon bons for dessert were yummy) and the friendliest staff I’ve met in a long time. When they learned we had driven two hours they were mightily impressed. And we didn’t even have to pay them thirty pieces of silver for the excellent service.
We wondered if Don “still had it”. We hadn’t seen him perform in many years. I looked up his age, 80!. Except for some hair loss and a few more wrinkles, I’m pleased to report he still “got it”–in spades!
He’s never had a gold record nor even a platinum as he barely records.
This snippet is: If I knew you were coming I’d have baked a cake
The band was great: sax, keyboard, base and drums.
This blog is the first time I wanted to use my own vids, and good old wordpress does not allow imbedding from Quick Time, so the spouse uploaded to You Tube, it took 100 years but we did it.
And my apologies for the snippets. I had requested my fav song of his but it wasn’t a night for improvising, he had his sets structured in advance. Therefore, not knowing what the camera might do, it ran out of space, I just took snippets but I think they’re a good show case for his voice.
He’s one of the best scat singers around.
If – the largest word in the English language –think about it. With Don you get music and commentary. He calls them observations….and comes up with many a bon mot in the process. Unlike the Tin Man in the Wizard of Oz he has a huge heart and is active in social justice issues
the raunchy- You can leave your hat on- had the women screaming lol
he ened with Windin’ boy but by then the camera was dead
this is my fav too bad not a live concert
Now y’all have had the pleasure of spending an evening with Don Francks.

I see you had a great time Sue… well worth the 4 hour round trip drive girl… never heard of Don Francks before… he’s a good jazz singer and the backing group we’er really good… love the sax… seems like the Toronto night life is alive and kicking girl… lived the vids… xxx
the sax was a girl – gather first woman he had in the group. And good for you to notice. yes the back up group was excellent
Glad you had a great time – thanks for sharing the clips
Hope you enjoyed them 😀
I had not heard of Don Francks before now. It is pleasantly surprising that an artist of his caliber did not record and seek stardom. Thank you for sharing this magical night with us! 8 points Earthling! 🙂
Glad you enjoyed him. He’s not the star seeking kind of guy. He does deserve more recognition is true
Excellent, I love being introduced to someone I’m not familiar with. Well done. I hope to see more vids of yours down the line.
