Kathryn just met the new boarder on December 31, 1899.

Mr. Smyth leaned forward. “Where are you from Mr. Thomas?”
“From away,” he replied.
What does that mean? Kathryn asked herself.
Next, Mr. Henderson inquired, “And what business are you in Sir, if I may ask?”
The newcomer looked the man in the eyes and in a soft tone with raised eyebrows answered, “Import-export is my business Sir.”
The other two gentlemen immediately lost interest.
Kathryn, who found amusement in studying people, thought Mr. Thomas’ demeanor a bit queer, but she had just been introduced to the man so she gave him the benefit of the doubt.
I think he knew exactly what to say to stop being questioned. LOL Great 8. Had me smiling.
thanks Heather – maybe our characters can get together and make a foursome?
Very we’ll done. I’ve seen this happen myself.
what? people say they’re from away
being from away is a newfoundland term
Always best to give him the benefit of the doubt, for now…! Great snippet.
in this case not so sure…
He’s being a bit secretive. You have me curious, and Kathryn as well! Fun little eight this week.
Secretive? Mr. Thomas? no! never!! 😀
He’s very good at shutting down the questions…interesting also that she is so observant. Intriguing excerpt, great 8!
He’s really good at shutting down the questions!!
Such secrecy. Curious.
he’s got a secret — which is his undoing
Hmmm….secrecy…but she is so intrigued. I can’t wait to see when they meet more informally 😉
Honey – it’s 1900 — they don’t do informal lol – Actually they do meet the next day…
LOL. Well, I know it’s improper to do informal, but I sense it’ll happen anyway…
~giggle~ Love your “Actually…” 😉 You give me hope.
don’t get too hopeful… remember those secrets of his… thanks you make me giggle
Men with secrets are awesome and hot…and I really need more of this story. lol.
Aw, thanks. Making people smile is always a good thing 😉
Way cool. A man with secrets. More. We all want more.Good eight.

He’s a mystery man. I like that she enjoys studying people. Seems like maybe this one will turn out to be mighty interesting! 🙂 Good 8!
thank you very much 😀
Ah, a man of mystery. Import/export could be just about anything, legal or illegal. This should be spicy! Nice 8 Sue. History Sleuth’s Milk Carton Murders
